Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, who attended the Solidarity Night organized by the Muhtars Association, made important statements regarding the country’s agenda.
In his speech, Üstel provided information about the government’s activities and the ongoing Isias trial, stating that they conducted an assessment during a meeting with the lawyers defending the families of the 35 Turkish Cypriots who died when the İsias Hotel they were staying in collapsed on February 6, 2023.
Üstel indicated that coordination efforts regarding the case continued under the Prime Ministry, and in response to the request of the Champion Angels Society, they hosted the lawyers defending the families.
“During our meeting, we reviewed the situation with our lawyers, our government, our opposition, and our families. We consulted on the ongoing process together. Our eyes will now be on the next hearing starting on April 26. This case is a matter of honour for us, for all of us. We will continue to press our efforts so that those responsible receive the punishment they deserve. Our grieving families are not alone. The Isias case is our joint cause. I believe that those on trial will be punished in the harshest way. Our trust in the Turkish judiciary is absolute,” he said.
In his speech at the event, Üstel also provided information about government activities, emphasizing the indispensable importance of muhktars for functional democracy.
Reminding that the institution of muhktarship has a historical place in the struggle for existence of the Turkish Cypriot people, Üstel expressed the joy of always maintaining good dialogue and collaboration with the muhktars, who serve as a direct link to the public.
Stressing that they have been fulfilling their promises one by one since taking office, the prime minister mentioned that they have not forgotten the muhktars.
He reminded that they will provide financial support to muhktars up to 95% of the minimum wage, taking into account the services they provide.
Üstel once again emphasized that 2024 will be much better than 2023 and underscored their commitment to preserving the purchasing power of the people and supporting the private sector.
He mentioned the approval of a new low interest loan packages for small businesses.
“We are working tirelessly for our people. We continue to provide support for all our sectors to survive. We have made and will make the necessary increases for the well-being and happiness of our employees. Our only concern is the strengthening of the TRNC and the welfare of our people. Our determination in this regard will continue with our stable government, and we will continue our path with the great support of the Republic of Türkiye,” he said.
