Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that as the government they will continue to realize grand projects.
Üstel, who paid visits to Gazimağusa and İskele within the framework of his regional visits, met with citizens and gave messages on the economy and foreign policy.
He said that they will be working hard in the coming period to implement the laws that the country needs.
Pointing out that they have addressed issues such as infrastructure, reforms and internet infrastructure that have not been touched for years, Üstel said, “We have managed to add significant value to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in terms of economy, finance and infrastructure with the new Ercan Airport and the electricity project via a cable from Türkiye and road projects we have started in the country.”
Stating that in order to keep the public happy and support purchasing power in the face of inflation, they have managed to reflect an exceptional increase in the rate of inflation to public employees, Üstel said, “With the cost of living starting to be paid 3 times a year, we will continue to support the purchasing power in 2024.”
Emphasizing that they have given and will continue to give close to a hundred percent increase to those who receive social assistance, disability and special financial assistance salaries, Üstel reminded that they will continue the social premium support for the private sector and said, “We try to assist all segments of life with all our means, in a balanced way”.
He also noted that the incentive premium for producers and feed support for animal producers will continue.
“Our government of one and a half years has passed many laws. All these laws are laws that the country needs, laws that will pave the way for the country. We will continue to work hard to lift all segments of society and to create a country that is least affected by the global crisis” said Üstel.
Explaining that due to their efforts 4.5G internet was brought to the country, Üstel stated now fibre optic cables will be laid from home to home.
“This will be one of the first major projects of 2024. We have allocated the financial resources, we will open up the tender and we will take a step closer to our digital island goal with the fiber optic cable” said Üstel.
Stating that for 26 years there has not been a national development plan prepared and that they have established a commission after receiving views from all segments, Üstel said that they will announce a 10-year national development plan in the first half of 2024 and emphasized that in all major projects in this country, the National Unity Party (UBP) which founded this state, has been involved.
Pointing to their historic visit to Azerbaijan together with President Ersin Tatar, Üstel drew attention to the fact that such a visit was realized for the first time in history.
“We will have high-level guests from Azerbaijan for our celebrations on November 15. Bridges have been established. Our ties are getting stronger. In 2024, more tourists and students from Azerbaijan will hopefully come to the TRNC” said Üstel.
He also added that sports and cultural activities between Türkiye- TRNC – Azerbaijan universities will start in the near future.
“Now that we are slowly starting to open up to the world it is essential to prepare our country for the future and make it more modern. We will do what is necessary and will prepare our state in a manner befitting the new world order,” said Üstel.
