Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said that women play a crucial role in societies and that their sacrifices were admirable.
Üstel’s words came from his message issued to mark the 8th of March International Women’s Day.
Highlighting the significant role played by women in all segments of society, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that women who were responsible for creating families, made great sacrifices during times of hardship.
He said that the day was important in terms of raising awareness on women’s rights, to improve their political, social and economic rights and achieve social equality.
“We are extremely proud of the success of our women in all segments of society. Not only are women the foundation stone of family life but also play significant roles in daily life and the workplace,” Üstel said.
The prime minister said that they will continue to work to further improve and develop the rights of women within society.
“I believe that we need to do more to increase and encourage the participation of women in society. Women must become more active, more productive and to have more social and economic independence. This must not only be done in legislative terms but through projects as well,” he added.
Üstel concluded his message by wishing all women in the TRNC and the world a happy March 8 International Women’s Day.
