“The most important message that has emerged from this election is the voters’ lack of expectation from politics. We will evaluate this situation,” Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said in his evaluation of the election results on Sunday.
The leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel who assessed the outcome of Sunday’s by-election at the UBP Headquarters said that the people had shown a great example of democracy and that the election had been completed without any issues.
Congratulating the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) over its win, the premier stressed that the public had given strong messages to the government through the ballot.
“We have completed our first year in government. Those in office are willing to endure some degree of wear and tear due to economic difficulties. Nevertheless, we did not suffer a significant loss of votes. It is evident that our people are deeply concerned and unhappy about the current economic hardships they are facing,” Üstel said.
“The low turnout has shown us that voters are disillusioned and have a low expectation from politics. This is the most important message that has emerged from the ballot. All parties should discuss and analyze this issue. As the UBP, we will evaluate the outcome of the election within our authorized bodies and coalition partners. Our people want stability. We will pay careful attention to why there is a lack of expectation,” he added.
Üstel also said that the election results pointed to the need to amend the country’s election and referendum laws, something he added they will be focusing on.

Ali Başman, the UBP’s candidate, also commented on the election results.
“The election process took place in a democratic environment. I congratulate my opponent Sami Özuslu on his victory and wish him success in his term in parliament. My intention to run for parliament was to serve the people. The voter turnout was low. It is debatable to what extent the will of the people was reflected in the results. Our people desire stability. The current government should remain in power until 2027. All the best to everyone,” Başman said.
