PM Üstel expresses support for Buse Savaşkan

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel received Buse Savaşkan, who ranked 10th in the women’s high jump final at the Paris Olympics, and the President of the Athletics Federation Ferhat Sakallı and his delegation.

During the visit, Üstel stated that he believed that Buse Savaşkan being in the top 10 at the Paris Olympics would make a significant contribution to the promotion of the TRNC.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel received Buse Savaşkan, who ranked 10th in the Paris Olympics women’s high jump final with a jump of 1 meter 86 centimetres, and the President of the Athletics Federation Ferhat Sakallı and his delegation.

Speaking during the visit Prime Minister Üstel said that the Athletics Federation and the Prime Ministry Undersecretary Hüseyin Cahitoğlu put their trust in Buse Savaşkan and that their trust did not go to waste.

Stating that they believe that Savaşkan’s success will also make an important contribution to the motivation of young people, Üstel announced that they will reward Buse Savaşkan and her coach with 20 Gold Republican coins each for such a success.

“As the state, we have done our part for Savaşkan” said Üstel and added that as the state they will continue to support Savaşkan

so that she can reach even greater goals in the next Olympics.

Üstel stated that they will also provide financial and moral support to Buse Savaşkan during the preparation process for the Los Angeles Olympics to be held in 2028.

He also expressed the belief that Buse Savaşkan being in the top 10 at the Paris Olympics will make a significant contribution to the promotion of the TRNC.

“I hope the world recognizes us and we see our young people flying our flag at those levels. That will be the greatest of honours for us. We are very happy that the Republic of Türkiye is taking you to compete. Türkiye’s flag is our flag, its enthusiasm is our enthusiasm. We thank our Türkiye very much,” he said.

Athlete Buse Savaşkan for her part expressed the hope that she will progress and achieve more medals in the near future adding that her goals from now on is to win a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Noting that they showed the whole world that there are successful athletes in the TRNC, Savaşkan expressed that she would like to compete with her own flag one day.

Ferhat Sakallı, President of the Athletics Federation for his part expressed his gratitude to the government and the Turkish Cypriot people who believed in them.
