Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said that there was no negotiating a federal settlement in Cyprus again.

“As of this point, we will not fall for Greek Cypriot games,” Üstel said in an interview with the Anadolu News Agency.

The prime minister also criticized the section in the European Parliament’s report on Türkiye concerning Cyprus, arguing that the report was biased.

Speaking to the Anadolu News Agency on Monday, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the time of negotiating a federal settlement in Cyprus was over and that the Turkish Cypriot side would no longer fall for Greek Cypriot games or delaying tactics.

He pointed out that negotiations on the basis of a federal settlement had failed to produce any results in the last 50 years.

Üstel added that the Greek Cypriot side was exploiting the island’s benefits for itself and doing everything in its power to force Turkish Cypriots to leave the island.

“Indeed, the Annan Plan was their plan, and we voted on it. We said yes, the Republic of Cyprus (South Cyprus) said no. But the reward and prize were given to the South,” he said.

Üstel also criticized the section on Cyprus in the European Parliament’s “2022 Türkiye Report”, stating that it was written with a biased attitude.

“They are making unjust and baseless accusations against Türkiye. We do not accept this, and we see that this is not the first time that Europe has done this; they have followed the same line in their previous reports,” he said

Üstel pointed out that the European Union (EU) is trying to present Türkiye’s military presence in TRNC as “occupation” to the world and strongly rejected this rhetoric.

He emphasized that the military presence brought peace not only to the Turkish Cypriots but also to the Greek Cypriots living on the island, and it is time for the world to see the facts about this matter.

Regarding the unjust isolation imposed on the TRNC, Prime Minüster Üstel said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call for the recognition of the TRNC at the 78th United Nations General Assembly was exciting.

“He told the world the truth. In light of these facts, we want the isolation and embargoes that our people in the TRNC have been experiencing in transportation, education, sports, and living conditions to end,” he added.

Commenting on the statements made by the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Christodoulides at the UN General Assembly in New York, Üstel stated that the Greek Cypriot leader should recognize the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people.

Üstel criticized Christodoulides for only addressing Türkiye and said, “We protest him for ignoring us and making statements in that direction.”

Referring to the strong relations that exist between Türkiye and the TRNC, Üstel said, “Thanks to these relations, despite embargoes and isolations, we are conducting all kinds of cooperation. With the financial cooperation protocols we signed, we are renewing our country’s infrastructure, hospitals, and school projects with the Republic of Türkiye.
