Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on Tuesday inspected ongoing asphalting work on the second stage of the Alsancak dual carriage way in Girne

Üstel, who was accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, briefed the press on technical details.

The Mayor of Lapta-Alsancak and Çamlıbel Fırat Ataser was also present during the inspection.

Hüseyin Tüfekçi whose company is carrying out the second stage of the dual carriage way said that traffic will be eased once telephone, water, fibre optic cables and lighting infrastructure works are completed during the day.

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı for his part said that they gave special attention to the work carried out in the area, that funding had been allocated for the project from the budget and that a ​​2,2km stretch of road will be completed by the end of June the latest.

He also said that the dual carriage way will be extended to the  Lapta hotels area once new funding is created.

Also speaking, the Mayor of Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel Fırat Ataser pointed out that the dual carriage was an important investment which aimed to address the area’s biggest problem, traffic congestion.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part expressed his satisfaction over the progress achieved, adding that it was the government’s priority to complete unfinished projects.

Pointing out that they were also working for the welfare and happiness of the public which included passing important legislation, he noted that they were trying to finish a road that has been waiting for many years.

He said that they first passed the laws pending in the parliament, and cited laws such as the law of municipalities, and the law on industrial zones.

“We will fulfil our every promise” Üstel said, adding that it was important to take care of the state.“Yes we will criticize our mistakes and what is wrong but we must also applaud the truth,” he said.

Referring to the energy problem in the country, Üstel said it was necessary to think about the future of the country when taking steps.

Pointing out that it was vital to interconnect the TRNC and Türkiye via cable, Üstel said, “it is imperative that we join our electricity grids with Türkiye. This will allow us to be part of the Turkish and wider European grid, allowing us to expand our alternative energy production.”
