Work within the scope of the protocol signed in 2023 between the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry, the Turkish Cypriot Construction Contractors Association, the Turkish Cypriot Hoteliers Association, the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Tradesmen and Artisans and the Prime Ministry for the improvement of border gates continues.

Within the framework of the protocol, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel together with the Economic Organisations, visited the Metehan Border crossing to see the work being carried out.

Making a statement, the Premier said that the renewal of the border crossing is an important example of the solidarity of the state and the private sector and reminded that from the very first day they had come to government they had promised to complete all unfinished projects.

Üstel stated that they have kept their promises and started work by working towards fixing the country’s infrastructure needs.

He noted that they have also started to solve the problems of passengers that are entering and exiting the country, Üstel said that with the opening of the Ercan Airport New Terminal and Runway on July 20, 2023, those who visit the country enter through a magnificent and modern airport.

He also said that the fact that Ercan is an airport where large-bodied planes can land is of great importance in terms of the first impressions of tourists visiting to the country.

Upon being asked a question regarding more crossing points opening between the two sides of the island, Üstel said that the Turkish Cypriot side is always in favour of opening more crossing points but that the Greek Cypriot side had not shown any interest in the idea.
