Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also issued a message on July 15.

In his message, Üstel said, “The spirit of July 15 is of great importance not only for our nationals living in Türkiye but also for the struggle for existence of our heroic people living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”

Üstel reminded that the treacherous attempt against Türkiye’s unity and integrity, democracy, existence and independence on July 15, 2016 had failed due to the heroic stance of the Turkish people.

“This epic stance, which is one of the most magnificent examples of the national struggle, has taken its place in the pages of history as concrete proof of the courage of our beloved martyrs, veterans and our nation who shielded their bodies against bullets and tanks.”

The Prime Minister noted that the national uprising that emerged on the night of July 15th 2016 showed the whole world how strong the Turkish nation’s commitment to democracy and its spirit of unity and solidarity is.

Pointing out that the spirit of July 15 is very important not only for the people living in Türkiye but also for the heroic people of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in terms of the struggle for existence, Üstel stated that on July 15, 1974, the Greek Junta coup, which aimed to turn Cyprus into a Greek Island, was prevented thanks to the heroic struggle of the people and the Turkish Peace Operation that took place after the coup.

“Thanks to this spirit of freedom that we carry as a nation, both the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will remain forever. On this occasion, on July 15, we once again condemn these treacherous coup attempts, commemorate with mercy all our heroes who were martyred for the sake of their homeland, and express our gratitude to our veterans,” said Üstel.
