Prime Minister Ünal Üstel (TRNC) met with Türkiye’s Vice President, Cevdet Yılmaz, during an official visit to Ankara.
Following their one-on-one meeting, Üstel spoke to the press, emphasizing the strong ties between the TRNC and Türkiye and highlighting the shared vision for development and stability.
“We are two states of a united nation,” Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said in a joint press conference after the meeting, underscoring the close cultural and historical bonds between the Turkish Cypriot and Anatolian communities.
He highlighted Türkiye’s consistent support for the TRNC, especially in critical times, and reaffirmed the ongoing high-level collaboration between the two governments.
Üstel praised the progress made since his government was formed, attributing much of the success to the harmonious and constructive relationship with Türkiye.
He revealed that the meeting with Vice President Yılmaz focused on advancing ongoing projects and setting new goals for 2025.
“2025 will be a transformative year, with the completion of long-delayed projects and the launch of significant new initiatives across various sectors, including education, healthcare, transportation, energy, agriculture, and technology,” Üstel announced.
He highlighted specific areas of focus, such as improving energy security, addressing infrastructure gaps in education and healthcare, and enhancing public services in technology and communication.
Addressing speculation about potential early elections, Üstel firmly stated that there are no plans or expectations for such a move. Instead, the government’s priority remains on delivering promised reforms and projects.
“We have nearly two years to respond to the needs of our people and fulfill the commitments we made. This period of stability is a valuable achievement for our nation, and we will not squander it on unnecessary political debates,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Üstel expressed his gratitude to Türkiye for its unwavering support.
He thanked the Turkish Vice President and his team for their hospitality and extended special recognition to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his steadfast commitment to the Turkish Cypriot people.
