Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said that all necessary steps will be taken swiftly for the realization of the interconnectivity project between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Üstel said that the TRNC’s energy issues will become a thing of the past once the project is completed.
In a written statement issued on Monday, Prime Minister Üstel said that the government will be moving swiftly to bring to life the interconnectivity project with Türkiye.
He said the project will be crucial for the development of the Turkish Cypriot economy, ensuring clean and uninterrupted electricity supply for the public.
“As the person who discusses the issue at the highest level with motherland Türkiye, I can confidently say that we will fulfil our promise to our people and bring an end to the country’s electricity problem within the next five years,” Üstel said.
The prime minister said that connecting the two countries via cable was not enough on its own and that the necessary infrastructure was also needed in the TRNC which fell under the responsibility of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK).
