Prime Minister Ünal Üstel expressed his firm conviction that after a fair trial, those responsible in the Isias trial will receive the most severe punishment in accordance with the law.

“Our trust in Turkish justice is complete,” Üstel said.

The Prime Minister also met with the families of the champion angels in Adıyaman where he is among those following the trials.

Prime Minister Üstel, in a press conference held at Urfa Airport, indicated that approximately one year has passed since the devastating earthquake of February 6, 2023.

Üstel reminded that among the 50,000 people who lost their lives in the earthquake were those living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Champion Angels who were in Adıyaman for a sports competition.

“Our pain has not ended. It is unfortunate that the lives of about 50,000 individuals, including the citizens of the TRNC and our champion angels, came to an end within minutes,” he said.

While acknowledging that the Isias Hotel case is just one of thousands of ongoing cases, Prime Minister Üstel emphasized that this trial was perhaps one of the most symbolic cases among them.

He stated that the Isias Hotel case is a common cause for everyone living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

“We trust in the supreme Turkish justice because justice is the foundation of the state. If there is no justice, there can be no state. Therefore, I believe that after a fair trial, everyone responsible will receive the punishment they deserve according to the laws,” Üstel said.

Expressing that the legal process for the unfortunate events after the earthquake is about to begin, Üstel stated, “The first case is being heard, and with a team of nearly 100, it is a concrete indication of how sensitively we approach this issue as a country.”

Prime Minister Üstel also emphasized that they will stay in Adıyaman until the end of the trial.
