The leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel issued messages on Wednesday in memory of the late Salih Miroğlu, former general secretary and minister of the UBP, and the late Özker Özgür, former leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) both of whom passed away on the same day 18 years ago.
“In memory of our dear brother Dr Salih Miroğlu, one of the unforgettable general secretaries of our party who served for years in the Girne Parliament and ministerial duties, with whom we have walked the path of politics together for years, sharing common sorrows and joys, I remember him with respect on the 18th anniversary of his death,” Üstel said in his message issued for Miroğlu.
Üstel emphasized that Dr Salih Miroğlu, who made significant contributions to the UBP with his public figure identity, politics, and oratory skills, had served the party well, bearing the burden of the party in the toughest times and earning a place in the hearts of party members.
In a separate message for the late CTP leader Özker Özgür, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said, “I commemorate Özker Özgür, who held an important place in the country’s politics, with his modest personality, honesty, and humane qualities, and who had earned the love of the people on the 18th anniversary of his death. May his soul rest in peace.”
