“We are pleased with our visit as we were able to see the work taking place in Maraş, but we still have a long way to go” said Akar.

Stating that the visit was also important in terms of understanding the importance they attach to Maraş, Akar said, “The Cyprus issue is our national issue. The security of Cyprus and the welfare of the people are our priority. We will continue our work here shoulder to shoulder.”

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part stated that it is important that Hulusi Akar, who knows the region well and knows the Greek Cypriot mentality closely, is on the island and noted that they always feel the power of Motherland Türkiye.

Stating that the Greek Cypriot mentality is still unchanging but they are unable to explain this to the world, Üstel said that the Greek Cypriots that he likened to a spoiled child, continues to blame the Turkish Cypriot side at every opportunity.
