PM Üstel receives Chairman of TGNA FA Committee Fuat Oktay

The Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee Fuat Oktay was received by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on Thursday as part of his contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Recieving the delegation from the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee led by Fuat Oktay on Thursday, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that he had worked closely with Fuat Oktay during his time as Vice President.

Üstel highlighted that Oktay had made significant contributions to major infrastructure projects during his previous tenure and provided examples.

Addressing the efforts to secure the rightful place of the TRNC in the world, the prime minister emphasized the importance of the call made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the United Nations General Assembly in this regard.

Üstel also expressed great happiness regarding the call the Turkish president made for the recognition of the TRNC and the removal of embargoes.

Prime Minister Üstel also emphasized the importance of the TRNC’s membership in the Organization of Turkic States.

Fuat Oktay, for his part said that their goal was to advance the projects undertaken during the previous term to a parliamentary level.

Oktay emphasized that a solution in Cyprus could only be possible based on the sovereign equality of the TRNC and pointed out that there had been no results in the negotiations ongoing since the 1960s, and the Turkish Cypriot people could not afford to wait any longer.

Oktay stated that due to embargoes and isolation, the most basic rights of Turkish Cypriots had been restricted and said that they were working towards the recognition of the TRNC.

He also explained that projects like irrigation in agriculture would greatly contribute to the country’s development and expressed that structural transformation would provide significant support to the country’s progress.
