Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said that a solution within the framework of federation is no longer possible in Cyprus.

Receiving a delegation from the Cyprus Turkish Freedom Fighters (TMT) Association headed by Celal Bayar, Üstel said, “We appreciate the value of our state and are moving confidently towards embracing the world.”

Speaking during the meeting, Bayar said his association was feeling great pride and honour to be celebrating both the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

“As the TMT Association, we continue our activities to keep the national sentiments alive, pass it on to younger generations and commemorate and pay tribute to our valuable members and those who have passed away.”

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part emphasized the significant contribution the Turkish Resistance Organization had played in the creation of the TRNC as well as its ongoing efforts for the preservation and development of the state.

Üstel said that the heroic struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people was crowned with the establishment of the TRNC, allowing them to live independently and freely under the roof of their own sovereign state.

He added that none of this could be achieved without the support of motherland Türkiye who has always and continues to be by the side of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Highlighting the importance of upholding the state and passing on their struggle to future generations, Üstel drew attention to the meaningful support provided by Türkiye and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the TRNC on the international stage.

Reiterating that achieving a federal solution in Cyprus is no longer possible, the prime minister expressed his hope that the TRNC, with the support of Türkiye, will sooner or later take its place amongst other recognised states in the world.
