The Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, was received by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on Wednesday as part of his contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Both Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the Turkish Minister stressed that traffic congestion in Lefkoşa will be eased once the extension of the Lefkoşa Ring Road is completed.
Accompanied by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Yasin Ekrem Serim, and the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Arıklı, along with a delegation, the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries.
He announced that the foundations for a 4 km segment of the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road would be laid today, with the aim of completing the road by next year.
Uraloğlu stated that once the road is completed, it will significantly ease traffic congestion in Lefkoşa. He also highlighted that a total of 600 km of roads, including divided and single-lane roads, have been constructed, marking substantial progress.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part remarked that significant projects have been undertaken under the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreements signed annually.
He noted that efforts have been made to complete projects that have been delayed since 2013 due to short and unstable governments.
Üstel recalled that Ercan Airport, which was tendered in 2012 and completed in 2023, is one such project. He added that with the completion of the road whose foundations are being laid today, the congestion experienced at the Gönyeli roundabout will be solved.
