Prime Minister Ünal Üstel flew to Ankara on Monday for a series of high-level contacts.

Üstel’s agenda in Ankara includes the preparations for the opening of the New Ercan Airport, which will be inaugurated on July 20, as well as the signing of an international agreement to bring electricity from Türkiye to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) via cable interconnecting both countries.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel will be meeting with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz within the scope of his contacts in the Turkish capital Ankara.

Among the main topics on Üstel’s agenda are preparations for the opening of the New Ercan Airport, which will be inaugurated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 20, and the signing of a national agreement that will bring electricity from Türkiye to the TRNC via cable.

An interconnected system that will work bi-directionally between the two countries will be established.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel is expected to return home after completing his contacts.

Meanwhile, the premier evaluated his upcoming contacts in Ankara following a central executive board meeting of the National Unity Party (UBP).

Noting that he informed the board regarding progress at Ercan Airport, Üstel said that the new airport will open the TRNC’s window to both Türkiye and third world countries as of July 20.

“Our visit to Ankara is very important. In order to prevent problems in energy, we will sign an international protocol with Türkiye. I will be meeting with the Turkish Vice President on Tuesday afternoon where we will sign the protocol,” said Üstel.
