Pr. Ersin Tatar attends ceremony at Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa

Ceremonies were held throughout the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to celebrate the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.

President Ersin Tatar who attended a ceremony held at the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa called on the children of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to trust themselves, the state and Motherland Türkiye.

A ceremony was held at the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa on Sunday as part of events marking the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.

Wreaths were laid, a minutes silence observed followed by the raising of the flags to the National Anthem.

Speaking during the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar noted that the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebrations in the TRNC and Türkiye were being marked in a solemn atmosphere due to the recent earthquake disaster which claimed the lives of thousands of people.

“As the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, we have always valued and continue to value our children,” said Tatar, stressing that an agreement based on sovereign equality in Cyprus will be the guarantee that children can live safely in this country.

“We are happy to maintain our existence, independence, freedom and sovereignty in this country” said Tatar, adding that the future of Turkish Cypriot generations will be safeguarded as and when the Turkish Cypriot side’s new policy on Cyprus is accepted.

Touching upon the earthquake that took place in Türkiye on February 6, President Tatar commemorated the champion angels that lost their lives in that earthquake and reiterated his call to the children of the TRNC to trust themselves, the state and motherland Türkiye.
