The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo will be paying a visit to Cyprus next week.
Prior to DiCarlo’s visit to Cyprus, President Ersin Tatar will be meeting with the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Cyprus and UN Peacekeeping Mission Chief Colin Stewart on Friday.
Details of DiCarlo’s visit will be discussed during the meeting.
According to a statement made by the Presidency, President Ersin Tatar will be meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cyprus and UN Peacekeeping Head of Mission Colin Stewart at 3pm on Friday the 10th of March.
President Ersin Tatar is expected to receive the the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs DiCarlo next Wednesday, March 15 at noon.
The statement noted that based on the fact that there is no common ground in order for the negotiations to begin in Cyprus, President Ersin Tatar will convey this to DiCarlo and inform her that common ground can only be realized with the confirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the two parties in Cyprus.
“While efforts continue to determine whether or not there is common ground, DiCarlo will be reminded that the Turkish Cypriot side supports the development of cooperation that concerns the daily lives of the two peoples and that this will also have positive repercussions on our region. We have not only voiced this view but presented it as a written proposal” said the statement.
“President Tatar will also emphasize that he expects active support from the UN in advancing the areas of cooperation conveyed to the Greek Cypriot leadership through UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in a way that will ensure common benefit”, the statement said.
