President Ersin Tatar evaluated the Russian Federation’s decision to start providing consular services in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)

Issuing a written statement, President Tatar said that he gives great importance to the decision taken by Russia as this step will contribute to the establishment of prosperity and stability in the region as well as meeting the humanitarian and administrative needs of Russian citizens living in the TRNC.

He said “The announcement by the Russian Ambassador to Lefkoşa Murat Zyazikov and some Russian officials that the Russian Federation will soon start providing consular services in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and that this will take place in the near future is the most up-to-date manifestation of the win-win understanding that looks at foreign policy from a humanitarian perspective and forms the focus of diplomacy.”

Pointing to the increase in the number of Russian diaspora living in the TRNC, Tatar said that this step taken by Russia will meet the humanitarian needs of the Russian citizens residing in the TRNC.

He said that he and the TRNC state fully supports any steps that will serve regional and global stability.

“I hope this step, which reveals the fact that there is a separate authority and administration in Northern Cyprus as a result of what has taken place, will be instrumental in carrying the humane, political and commercial relations between the TRNC and Russia to a better position” said Tatar.
