President Ersin Tatar held a bilateral meeting with the visiting Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on Tuesday.

Issues regarding the economy, energy and the Cyprus issue were discussed.

Speaking during the meeting President Ersin Tatar said that it is important to make the best use of the knowledge of the Turkish Vice President Yılmaz for the development of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and to work for a more efficient economic structure to emerge in the country.

Pointing to the importance of the actions that Turkish Vice President Yılmaz will take to strengthen the TRNC’s economy in his duty, Tatar said “Your experience and guidance are very valuable.”

Explaining that comparative advantages are important in economy, Tatar noted that the comparative advantages of the TRNC are the sun and the sea, and that agriculture has become more prominent, especially after the pandemic process, the Russia-Ukraine war and climate change.

He said that by directing the water coming from Anatolia to agricultural activities, those engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry will use water more efficiently.

Touching upon the issue of the e-Government project in the TRNC, he said that it has reached a certain stage and will be implemented in the near future.

On the Cyprus issue, Tatar said that they wanted a treaty that leads to the cooperation of the two states in Cyprus, and added, “We have received status in the Organization of Turkic States. Our wish is to strengthen the economic structure of the TRNC, to provide a better future for young people, to have a state that can stand on its own feet and make its own investments.”

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz for his part stated that on the Cyprus issue there is no point in retrying formulas that have failed over the years and said “As the Republic of Türkiye, we support your vision of a two-state solution one hundred percent.”

“The century of Türkiye will also be the century of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” Yılmaz said, adding that he sincerely believes that the TRNC will become a much more influential country in the world, where all doors are open.

“We will continue on our way by using legal means and making good use of the realities of today’s world” said Yılmaz.
