Date Added: 05 June 2023

Today is June 5 World Environment Day.

It is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. The theme of this year’s World Environment Day hosted by Côte D’Ivoire is #BeatPlasticPollution which calls for global solutions to combat plastic pollution..

President Ersin Tatar in a message issued on Monday highlighted the importance of protecting the environment.

Noting that plastic waste, being derived from petroleum, creates an ecological problem that accelerates global warming by affecting carbon dioxide emissions, he emphasized the need for a collective approach to solving this problem, which deeply affects Cyprus due to its geographical location.

Tatar also called for the public to adhere to solution-oriented decisions based on collective wisdom, guided by the light of science and expert opinions, with a sense of responsibility.

The president emphasized that humanity has a significant responsibility towards future generations and the entire environment, highlighting the importance of preserving ecological diversity and natural beauty as an indispensable element of sustainable development.

He stated that it is beneficial to draw attention to this on World Environment Day, June 5, and emphasized the importance of passing them on to future generations.

“I am fully convinced that we have much brighter tomorrows awaiting us with the awareness of our people and the measures our state takes to protect natural life and ensure a sustainable environment in order to achieve a healthy future. With the truth that the current period we are in will be a historic milestone for our planet, I wholeheartedly hope to provide a more livable world for our future generations by fulfilling the responsibility that lies upon humanity with great determination,” Tatar said.
