President Ersin Tatar has said that there is no going back on the new policy on Cyprus, a two-state solution based on sovereign equality.

He also said that Britain, which had received two sovereign bases when the island gained independence from colonial rule, should also support this new policy of two sovereign and equal states.

President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday came together with soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Battalion Command serving under the 1st Infantry Regiment.

Speaking during his visit, President Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot people suffered greatly in the past and that their struggle still continued today.

Explaining that the Cyprus issue and the injustices carried out by the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo against the Turkish Cypriot people still continue today, President Tatar said that everyone is well aware of the duo’s plans for the Turkish Cypriot people.

Stating that the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces was a regular army, President Tatar also briefed the troops on the history of the Cyprus problem.

“Britain which has obtained two sovereign bases at the end of its rule on the island should today support the policy of two sovereign equal states,” Tatar said, adding that the Turkish Cypriot people were certainly not a part of the so-called Republic of Cyprus.

He also pointed out that Motherland Türkiye has the right to unilaterally intervene if any injustices are carried out against the Turkish Cypriot people.

While advocating for the new policy on Cyprus, Tatar stated that the fairy tale of a federal settlement in Cyprus must come to an end.

“The game being played by the other side is clear. The Greek Cypriots want to eliminate the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots. They want the scrapping of the system of guarantees and withdrawal of Turkish soldiers from the island. They want to turn this place into a Hellenic island.”

Noting that obstacles still remain in the way of direct trade and direct flights, Tatar drew attention to the fact that while great injustices are being carried out against the Turkish Cypriot people, the Greek Cypriots were rewarded with EU membership.

Underlining the fact that the Turkish Cypriots will never accept the concept of “zero soldiers, zero guarantees”, President Tatar stated that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo’s aim was to spread its influence and authority to the north and reduce the Turkish population on the island.

“The TRNC is a member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) with its constitutional name,” said Tatar adding that Türkiye will never give up on the national policy pursued in Cyprus in order to protect the stability in the region.

Noting that the TRNC played a vital role for Türkiye’s security, President Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriots’ only guarantee for existing on the island was their own state.
