President Ersin Tatar stated that after extensive consultations, earthquake resistance inspections of buildings have started with priority has been given to schools.

The president made the statement while receiving a delegation from the Turkish Peace Forces Veterans Association.

Speaking during the visit President Ersin Tatar stated that everyone had been going though very difficult times since the 6th of February and had experienced much pains.

Noting that unity and solidarity will continue forever, Tatar said, “We will continue our existence as a nation and a people.”

Touching upon his visit to Türkiye and his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Tatar said that they had conveyed their condolences and continued support for Türkiye.

Noting that Cyprus is also in an earthquake zone, but that after assessments were carried out a major earthquake is not expected in the near future, Tatar noted that last week during his informal meeting with the Greek Cypriot leader they had talked about cooperation.

“We have started carrying out earthquake resistance inspections of our buildings and we have given priority to school buildings” said Tatar and added that they owe it to the children to take precautionary measures in order to be able to walk to the future in certainty.

Stating that the earthquake in Türkiye has affected millions of people, Tatar noted that the authorities in Türkiye are doing all they can to reach and assist everyone that has been effected.

Referring to the difficulties of removing debris in such harsh winter weather conditions, Tatar stated that teams are working day and night to heal the wounds of the nation.

Explaining that mass housing projects will start as soon as possible, President Tatar noted that some projects are being implemented in order to keep the names of the Champion Angels, teachers and parents who lost their lives in the earthquake alive.

Pointing to the importance of unity and solidarity Tatar said, “The pain of the Republic of Türkiye is our pain and its joy is our joy. This understanding will always continue. The contributions of our veterans to our country during the 1974 Peace Operation will not be forgotten. I would like to express my gratitude to all veterans.”
