President Ersin Tatar has said that they will continue to take steps required for the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
“There is no going back, the TRNC will be accepted,” he said, adding that a solution in Cyprus could only be possible on the basis of a two-state solution.
Speaking during a visit paid to him on Tuesday by members of the Türkiye-Cyprus Cooperation Society, President Ersin Tatar drew attention to the dangers of achieving a political settlement in Cyprus on the basis of a federal solution model.
He said that ongoing efforts to promote and achieve international recognition of the TRNC will continue in collaboration with Türkiye.
Tatar pointed out that there will be no going back from the two-state policy despite efforts by the Greek Cypriots to prevent the TRNC’s recognition.
“The TRNC will receive acceptance one way or the other,” he added.
Also highlighting the importance of the continuation of Türkiye’s guarantees and presence of Turkish troops on the island, Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots had a right to self-determination.
He added that it was important to maintain the existence of the TRNC, to develop the country in every field possible and to strengthen its institutions.
