President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday issued a message to mark March 8, International Women’s Day.
He said that this year’s women’s day celebrations were being held in a sad atmosphere due to the earthquake disaster in Türkiye.
“We are going through a difficult period, one that is full of sorrow, grief, pain, empathy, solidarity and communal unity,” Tatar said.
Highlighting the significance of the day, President Ersin Tatar said that Turkish Cypriot women had an important place within Turkish Cypriot society.
“It is my firm conviction that women, who are an important part of the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ struggle for existence will continue to be a symbol of solidarity and courage,” he said.
Tatar also said that he will continue to work to further elevate women’s rights in Turkish Cypriot society.
