Date Added: 04 October 2023

President Ersin Tatar called for the preservation of unity and solidarity, particularly on the Cyprus issue.

Speaking at the information and consultation meeting of the People’s Council established under the Office of the President, President Ersin Tatar provided information about his New York contacts, his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue.

Tatar said he had explained the just cause of the Turkish Cypriot people during his contacts in New York, pointing out that a two-state solution would be beneficial for Cyprus and the region and that a federal-based agreement is not possible.

Tatar also criticized the European Union, stating that the EU needed to abandon its biased stance.

“Today, we will not abandon our cause and our new policy just because we are experiencing some economic and social difficulties,” he said, calling on the Turkish Cypriot people to preserve their unity and solidarity.

Meanwhile, members of the council expressed their full support for President Tatar’s policies.
