President Ersin Tatar returned to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Monday after completing his contacts in Azerbaijan.

Speaking to the press at Ercan Airport, President Tatar said that they were welcomed with extraordinary interest.

“We went to Azerbaijan with a strong delegation. We were accompanied by tourism representatives, educators, business people and artists. In addition to cultural activities in Azerbaijan, our team sought how we could improve the tourism and education sectors of our country. The most important stage of my visit was my acceptance by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev” said Tatar.

He added that various meetings on how cooperation between the two countries could be improved were also realized.

Stating that President Aliyev said that he would always continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriot people as they were facing great injustices due to isolations and embargoes, and that these could be overcome with unity and solidarity over time, Tatar said “Aliyev said that it is very important for us to take our place as an observer member in the Organization of Turkic States and that his support for us will continue to increase.”

“Our relations with Azerbaijan have entered a new era. Although we had carried out many contacts before, this time due to the messages given to us, our relations have now seriously developed” said Tatar.

He also noted that Azerbaijani media showed great interest during their visit and added “They were able to make our voices heard. The ancient ties have become even stronger due to this visit.”
