President Ersin Tatar has requested that mukhtars inform the public on the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.
Tatar, who attended an event organized by the Muhktars Association, emphasized the importance of the views of the local officials.
The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre, who also attended the night, emphasized that muhktars should take the strongest stance in upholding and promoting the state.
Addressing muhktars at the event, President Ersin Tatar mentioned that he made an effort to regularly meet with them to exchange information as well as inform them on the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.
He drew attention to the need of improving both the salaries as well as the working conditions of the mukhtars.
Explaining that efforts to introduce and strengthen the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) continued with the support of motherland Türkiye, Tatar also touched upon the Cyprus issue, stating that negotiations can and will only begin with the recognition of sovereign equality and the acceptance of two equal sovereign states.
He added that it was important that muhktars regularly informed the public on the Turkish Cypriot side’s official two-state policy.
Tatar also stated that the international community should be informed that the Turkish Cypriot people, who are independent and free in Cyprus through their struggle, have their own state.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre who also spoke at the event said that much responsibility fell on the muhktars in both promoting and supporting the country which was struggling under embargoes and international isolation.
Stating that muhktars were best informed of the difficulties and challenges the public experienced, Töre expressed the view that muhktars acted as a bridge between the state and the people.
