President Ersin Tatar received a delegation from Diplomats International which is an international non-governmental organisation.

Speaking during the visit, President Ersin Tatar pointed out that Cyprus is one of few places where the United Nations has been stationing a peacekeeping force for the past 60 years.

Pointing out that the Cyprus problem has always attracted the attention of international diplomats; Tatar said that diplomats have made suggestions for the solution of the problem between the two peoples and carried out diplomatic efforts.

Stating that there has been a dispute between the two sides in Cyprus for 60 years, Tatar noted that the Turkish Cypriot side has been seeking its rights based on law and universal values.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriot side explained to the diplomats that as one of the two founding partners of Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriot side has sovereignty and equal status and the right to a state as much as the Greek Cypriots, President Tatar said, “The message we are giving to diplomats is that the world states should contribute to the process in a fair, principled and impartial manner”.

Stating that an agreement should be reached with a realistic solution model in Cyprus, Tatar emphasized that an agreement could not be reached with a solution model on a federal basis and that a solution should be reached with the cooperation of the two states in order for it to be sustainable.

He pointed out that it is important for Diplomats International to hold a meeting in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and wished that the conference, which will be held with the initiatives of the founder of Girne American University and Girne Deputy Serhat Akpınar, will be beneficial.
