Pres. Tatar visits the Ottoman Archives Complex of the State Archives

President Ersin Tatar emphasized that a nation must know its history very well in order to survive.

The President made the statement while visiting the Ottoman Archive Complex of the Directorate of State Archives in Istanbul.

President Ersin Tatar who is in Türkiye to carry out a variety of contacts paid a visit to the Ottoman Archive Complex of the Directorate of State Archives and received information from the authorities.

Speaking during the visit Tatar emphasized that a nation must know its history very well in order to survive.

“A nation that carries its past to the future always takes its place in history,” Tatar said, adding that the Ottoman Archive Complex, which was built in line with the directives of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is a magnificent work of art in terms of architecture, technique and equipment.

Stating that the National Archive and Research Department of the TRNC Presidency is also carrying out its work meticulously, Tatar pointed to the importance of the protocol recently signed, which envisages cooperation between the Archive Directorates of the two states.

Stating that the transfer of the experience and knowledge here to the TRNC is also important for the Turkish Cypriot peoples history to be transferred correctly to future generations, Tatar stated that the parties will quickly initiate the necessary work within the scope of the protocol.

During the visit, President Tatar also examined the lease agreement signed between the Ottoman Empire and Britain in 1878.

He said that without this document, the UK could have put forward different claims, but as can be seen in this document, the administration of the island was left to the UK, but the property rights were not transferred.

Within the scope of his Istanbul visits, President Ersin Tatar also visited the citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus who were referred to the Republic of Türkiye Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University Faculty of Medicine Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital for treatment with the decision of the medical board, and expressed his get well wishes to the patients and families.
