President Ersin Tatar on Monday received the Mayor of Gülyalı municipality located in Türkiye’s Ordu province.
Speaking during the visit, Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots were inseparable from their brethren in Anatolia, sharing their feelings of pain and joy.
According to a statement released by the Office of the President, President Ersin Tatar on Monday received Ulaş Tepe, the Mayor of Gülyalı located in Türkiye’s Ordu province, and a delegation of war veterans from Ordu who served in Cyprus in 1974.
Speaking during the visit, the President noted that Turkish Cypriot people were inseparable from their brothers and sisters in Anatolia, sharing their joy and pain.
Expressing his condolences for those who died in the February 6 earthquakes in Türkiye, Tatar said this was the disaster of the century.
Explaining that he had also met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he stated that they mutually offered their condolences to each other.
Expressing the hope that Türkiye will recover from the quake as soon as possible, the president drew attention to the importance of preparing for future earthquakes.
“The Republic of Türkiye will do what is necessary as a great state. After the debris removal phase is completed within the plan, the program will protect the citizens who are victims of earthquake zones with different projects. Our government and the Turkish Cypriot people have also provided the help they can and will continue to do their best in this process. Nothing will be the same as before. The public has become more aware on earthquakes. Earthquake resistance tests of buildings, primarily our schools and hospitals, have begun. I hope such disasters never happen again” Tatar added.
