President Tatar approves Guterres’ UN Personal Envoy nominee

President Ersin Tatar has approved the nomination of the Personal Envoy proposed by United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

President Tatar delivered the notification of his approval to the UN Secretary-General on Sunday night.

According to the information given by the Presidency, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representative of Colombia to the UN among other duties, has become the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General.

In accordance with the agreement reached with the UN Secretary-General, the Personal Envoy will be appointed for a period not exceeding 6 months and her sole task will be to investigate whether there is common ground between the two sides for a new and formal negotiation process in Cyprus.
