President Ersin Tatar together with First Lady Sibel Tatar attended an İftar or fast breaking dinner organized by the Yunus Emre Institute.

A cultural documentary produced by the institute was also screened at the event.

President Tatar who spoke at the dinner stressed that Turkish Cypriots existed in Cyprus by preserving and protecting their spiritual values.

Delivering a short speech at the event on Thursday evening, President Ersin Tatar stated that their strong ties existed between Türkiye and Turkish Cypriots who were an integral part of the Turkish Nation with their traditions and customs.

Pointing out that Turkish Cypriots continue to exist in Cyprus with their language and culture, Tatar said, “With the inspiration of the Republic of Türkiye, we have existed in Cyprus with our faith by protecting our language and religion. It is our duty to protect the island, which is 40 miles away from motherland Türkiye.”

Noting that others should not be allowed to sow seeds of discord in order for the Turkish Cypriots to continue their existence on the island, President Tatar talked about the drawbacks of a solution on a federal basis and noted that some circles want Türkiye to be excluded from the island, but this situation will not be allowed.

Tatar also explained that he was closely following the activities of the Yunus Emre Institute, and that it was extremely important and meaningful for the institute, which operates in 60 countries, to continue to carry out its activities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Drawing attention to the importance of Ramadan, President Tatar emphasized the importance of unity, solidarity and cooperation.
