President Ersin Tatar said that Bayrak Radio Television Corporation has been announcing the just cause and voice of the Turkish Cypriots to the world for 61 years.

The President issued a message on the 61st anniversary of the establishment of the Institution.

In his written message, President Ersin Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot people have passed from the struggle for freedom and existence to the process of protecting their rights and laws, protecting their sovereignty and imposing their state to the world and that they have worked hard for this cause, and that the historical duty of Bayrak Radio Television Corporation still continues to this day.

He noted that Bayrak Radio was established on December 25, 1963 to raise the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people in response to Greek Cypriot lies after the Turkish Cypriot people were expelled from the partnership state, the Republic of Cyprus, as a result of an armed attack on December 21, 1963.

He said the goal of the Turkish Resistance Organization and its members who established Bayrak Radio was to inform the Greek Cypriot aggressors led by Makarios, who called for ‘surrender’, that the Turkish Cypriot fighters would resist for freedom, their flag and homeland and to give morale to the people.

“That flag was the flag that the Turks unfurled for freedom. That flag successfully fulfilled its duty during the Greek Cypriot attacks on Turkish settlements in all corners of the island, Erenköy resistance, Geçitkale, Boğaziçi incidents, the Greek-Greek Cypriot coup d’état of July 15 for the purpose of Enosis, and the freedom process that started on July 20, 1974, when the mujahids (Turkish Cypriot fighters) and Mehmetçiks (Turkish fighters) served together, and announced the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people to the whole world.

Noting that the Bayrak Radio Television Corporation is obliged to defend the national cause and related policies at home and abroad and to explain these policies, as clearly stated in its own law, President Tatar said, “Ensuring the establishment and development of Atatürk’s principles and revolutions in the society and observing national security are the duties assigned to BRTK by law.”

Noting that BRT, as a state institution, is engaged in public broadcasting, President Tatar commemorated those who have served the institution since its establishment with love and respect, those who have lost their lives with mercy and wished it many successful years.
