President Ersin Tatar held some contacts in the Turkish capital, Ankara on Tuesday.

As part of his visit, Tatar gave a conference on the topic “The strategic importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and current policies” at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University on Tuesday, where he stated that the Turkish Cypriots would fully protect all the wealth surrounding Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.

During his visit to Ankara, President Ersin Tatar also participated in an exhibition, a panel discussion, and a book-signing event at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University.

He first inaugurated an exhibition showcasing newspaper headlines and photographs from Turkish and TRNC media, covering the policies he has implemented since taking office and his efforts to increase the international recognition of the TRNC.

Following the exhibition’s opening, Tatar delivered a conference on “The strategic importance of the TRNC and current policies” as part of an event organized by the Asian Studies Application and Research Centre to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

In his speech, the President provided information on the history of Cyprus, stating that Turkish Cypriots had always resisted the attacks carried out by the Greek Cypriots and have always trusted motherland, Türkiye.

Expressing that the TRNC had turned its direction towards the Turkic world, Tatar stressed that the Turkish Cypriots would fully protect all the wealth surrounding the island of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“The new policy we are currently pursuing is now a two-state policy. The importance of the two-state policy is that the Turkish state in the north is an independent sovereign state. We are talking about a geography where we have more rights and legal claims, together with Türkiye, in the Blue Homeland, with maritime jurisdiction areas, territorial waters, airspace, and various other exclusive economic zone boundaries, as well as on our own land” President Tatar said.

Referring to the July 20 Peace Operation, he stated that the operation was not easy, but with strong coordination between the heroic Turkish soldiers (Mehmetçiks) and the Turkish Cypriot fighters (Mucahits), it was successfully carried out, thus establishing the borders of the TRNC.

Referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call for the recognition of the TRNC during the 79th UN General Assembly, the President expressed his gratitude to Turkish President Erdoğan and the Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahçeli for their support to the TRNC and Turkish Cypriots.

Stating that the TRNC was integrating with the Turkic world, he reiterated that they were pursuing a two-state policy regarding the Cyprus issue.

After the conference, President Ersin Tatar signed several books for the attendees, including A Journey of History and Awareness with Ersin Tatar, New Perspectives on Cyprus with Ersin Tatar, Love for Cyprus, and From the General Committee to Two Separate States.

President Tatar also inaugurated the “Cyprus Peace Operation Park,” built by the Keçiören Municipality in memory of the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

During the opening ceremony, President Ersin Tatar stressed the importance of the “two-state” policy currently being pursued by the TRNC and he expressed the hope that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, an independent Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean, will be preserved forever and that relations with motherland, Türkiye, will continue to strengthen.
