President Ersin Tatar issued a message to mark the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory.
In his message he emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people were inspired by this victory to gain their freedom and establish their own state.
Addressing the Cyprus issue in his message, President Tatar stated, “We will highlight in Geneva that seeking a solution based on a federation is futile and that no more time should be wasted.”
In his message to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the March 18 Çanakkale Victory, President Ersin Tatar emphasized that the Çanakkale Victory was one of the significant turning points in history, stating that “Çanakkale Victory was also a harbinger of our War of Independence. The unity, brotherhood, and solidarity demonstrated in Çanakkale revealed the spirit essential for our struggle for independence.”
“Inspired and empowered by this great victory, the Turkish Cypriot people have waged a great struggle to protect their own state, freedom, and sovereignty in these lands they consider their homeland, despite all difficulties, with the support and assistance of Türkiye” continued Tatar.
He added that “In this sacred struggle that has continued for over a century, our sons have fallen to the ground just as they did in Çanakkale, and these lands have been made a homeland with blood and sacrifice. Today, if we live freely in our own homeland, under the roof of our sovereign state, we owe it to the resistance of our people, our fighters, the Turkish soldiers, and our martyrs. We will protect and uphold these sacred values, entrusted to us by our martyrs, no matter the cost”.
He also stated that they commemorate the hundreds of thousands of martyrs who rest in Çanakkale, adding: “I want to emphasize that our debt of gratitude to our martyrs can only be repaid by always upholding our homeland, our flag, and the virtues that led our nation to victory.”
Touching upon the Cyprus issue in his message Tatar said at the informal Cyprus meeting in Geneva under the supervision of the UN, they will emphasize that there is no common ground there and that the lack of common ground has been confirmed in the reports of UN representatives.
Reminding that they are attending the Geneva meeting to discuss the future of Cyprus, Tatar reiterated: “It is futile to continue seeking a solution based on a federation that has been exhausted and does not reflect the consent of both sides. We will highlight that no more time should be wasted on this framework.”
