President Ersin Tatar issued a message on Friday marking World Children’s Day.
He said that they were working to provide a better future for children in the TRNC and the world.
World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.
In a message issued on the occasion, President Tatar pointed out that children required special attention and protection.
“There are so many things individuals can do for children today and for their future. The important thing is awareness,” he said.
Tatar reminded that the TRNC had signed and approved the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in 1996.
“We are working for the welfare not only because we signed the convention but because we strive to provide a better future for them,” he said, adding that they believed that ensuring shelter, health, education, equality, justice, freedom and peace for children was everyone’s duty and responsibility.
