President Ersin Tatar on Monday received students and academics of the American University of Cyprus (AUC).
During the meeting, Tatar discussed what could be done to overcome the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, particularly in universities, in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
He stated that they supported initiatives in both sports and social fields to help individuals with disabilities achieve a better quality of life.
“The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), as a social state, is committed to supporting every citizen” the President said and added that he emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in line with the state’s increasing resources at every opportunity.
Underlining the importance of keeping these efforts on the agenda and raising public awareness on the matter, President Tatar stated that there will be initiatives for individuals with disabilities in the coming days and that they will continue to work together on this issue.
During the meeting, the American University of Cyprus academic Emel Yılmaz briefed President Tatar on a project prepared by the university to address the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in higher education and the American University of Cyprus student Ahmet Kurkmaz also shared the details of his own project.
