The leader of the Greek Cypriot administration Nikos Christodoulides has claimed that the UN has extended an invitation for a trilateral meeting to take place in New York, however President Ersin Tatar has flatly denied the Greek Cypriot leader’s claims.

President Tatar evaluated the statements made by the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on the issue of “trilateral talks” as an attempt to create a fait accompli and pressure the Turkish Cypriot side.

“The Greek Cypriots are again pursuing a game. The Greek Cypriots intentions are to shape perceptions and try to put the Turkish Cypriots side under pressure. We will not fall for these games” Tatar said.

President Ersin Tatar elaborated on the statements made by Christodoulides on the “trilateral talks” made on Sunday through the Presidential Web site with a written statement he gave to Turkish Agency Cyprus TAK.

President Tatar evaluated the statements made by the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration Nikos Christodoulides on the “trilateral meeting” as an effort to manipulate the Turkish Cypriot side.

“The biggest mistake made diplomatically in these statements is that they are using the UN Secretary-General’s name while making these statements”.

Underlining that they will not allow the Greek Cypriot Administration to maintain the status it has usurped for so many years, the President said, “They should not be fooled or deceived by the Greek Cypriot leader’s statements that the negotiations will continue from where they left off, because these statements are both flimsy and far from reality.”

“A just and lasting solution in Cyprus can only be based on the cooperation of the two states. The security, prosperity and future of the Turkish Cypriot people are in safe hands. The support provided to us by motherland Türkiye in almost every field is the most important assurance of this” said Tatar.

In a statement published on the official website of the Presidency, President Tatar said, “No one should have the expectation that the negotiations will start from where they left off in Crans Montana. The search for a federal solution ended in Crans Montana.”

Tatar underlined once again that there is no common ground for the resumption of negotiations on Cyprus.
