President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, has expressed his readiness for constructive dialogue with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides.
His remarks came after attending the United Nations’ year-end reception held at the Ledra Palace Hotel in the buffer zone.
Speaking to the press following the reception, President Tatar extended his gratitude to the UN and all attendees, wishing everyone a happy new year and Merry Christmas.
He reaffirmed his willingness to engage in constructive talks with the Greek Cypriot leader, emphasizing mutual respect and the principle of reciprocity. Tatar highlighted the sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots, stating, “I want a better future for both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. The key is mutual understanding.”
He also called on Christodoulides to adopt a more empathetic stance toward the Turkish Cypriot community, reiterating their equal rights to sovereignty.
President Tatar expressed optimism about improved relations between the two communities, particularly with the potential opening of new crossing points.
