President Ersin Tatar said on Thursday that peace already exists in Cyprus, emphasizing that the only remaining issue is reaching an agreement.
Tatar’s comments came during a meeting with General Levent Ergün, Commander of the 2nd Army, who was in the TRNC to attend the Republic Day celebrations.
Receiving General Ergün, President Ersin Tatar sent a strong message to the Greek Cypriot Administration, warning that a settlement in Cyprus will no not be possible if they continue to refuse to acknowledge the realities of the island and deny the equal sovereignty and two-state status of the Turkish Cypriots, as well as insist on the withdrawal of Turkish forces and the renouncement of Türkiye’s rights.
Ergün reaffirmed the Turkish Armed Forces’ commitment to the Turkish Cypriot cause, stating that they would not tolerate any unilateral actions and would always stand by the Turkish Cypriots.
Tatar also highlighted the historical importance of the TRNC’s creation and the ongoing efforts alongside Türkiye to secure the sovereignty, freedom, and equality of the Turkish Cypriot people.
He stressed that if the Greek Cypriots refuse to accept the reality of two equal states, peace would not be achievable on the island.
