Monkeypox also known as Mpox disease has hit hard the African continent this year and now the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Mpox situation a “public health emergency of international concern”.

President Ersin Tatar made a statement regarding the Monkeypox virus outbreak.

President Ersin Tatar said that under the auspices of the Presidency, the necessary consultations will be held as soon as possible with the representatives of the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Health, the Supreme Committee on Communicable Diseases, the Ministry of National Education, the Immigration Department, the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association, the Turkish Cypriot Association of Freelance Physicians, relevant institutions and organizations, and that the road map to be determined will be shared with the public and the press.

Issuing a written statement, Tatar stated that the World Health Organization declared a global “public health emergency of international importance” due to the monkeypox virus outbreak affecting Africa and shared general information about the virus, but no regulations have yet been made regarding the outbreak.

“As the TRNC, our main responsibilities will be to take individual and then social measures regarding the issue,” Tatar said, emphasizing that in this context, as in all kinds of infectious diseases, personal hygiene should be paid attention to and close contact should be avoided in public areas.

Meanwhile the Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek also made statements regarding the Monkeypox virus, which was declared an emergency by the World Health Organization.

Dinçyürek said, “The Infectious Diseases Supreme Committee and the Infection Control Committee have convened and started their work, and all necessary measures are being taken against the outbreak.”
