President Tatar received Coastal Safety Director General Salel

President Ersin Tatar received the Turkish Cypriot Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue General Director Captain Murat Salel.

Speaking during the visit, President Ersin Tatar noted that a variety of agreements have been signed between Türkiye and the TRNC in regard to security and search and rescue in the Eastern Mediterranean, Blue Homeland and airspace.

Tatar stated that at the meeting held in Ankara, an agreement was developed to cooperate with the relevant institutions of the Republic of Türkiye regarding coastal safety and to control everything that happens through radar and satellite.

Pointing to the importance of the Turkish Cypriot Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue company’s search and rescue activities in the Blue Homeland within the jurisdictional areas of the TRNC, Tatar said, “As a sovereign Turkish state, the search and rescue activities carried out together with the coast guard are extremely important for the TRNC to maintain its existence in its own maritime jurisdictional areas on issues such as territorial waters, economic exclusive zone and continental shelf.”

He said that the work carried out to control situations that may disturb security from the sea regarding irregular migration is also important.

Captain Murat Salel, General Manager of Turkish Cypriot Coastal Safety and Ship Rescue, said that they have been carrying out search and rescue activities in the Eastern Mediterranean region since 2003, representing Türkiye and the TRNC in the Blue Homeland.

Stating that the importance of the organization has increased due to the recent hot developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, Salel thanked President Tatar for his support on their work.
