President Ersin Tatar received the President of the Human Rights Association Hasan Yılmaz Işık and members of the board of directors on the occasion of World Human Rights Day.
Stating that the Cyprus issue is actually a human rights issue, Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people have been victimized for years due to the isolation and restrictions imposed and that the Republic of Türkiye has always stood by the Turkish Cypriots.
Speaking during the visit that was realized at the Presidency, President Ersin Tatar expressed his gratitude for the Association’s visit and recognized the vital work they do.
He emphasized that the Cyprus issue is essentially a human rights issue and acknowledged the Turkish Cypriot people’s long-standing victimization due to isolation and restrictions.
He praised the Republic of Türkiye for consistently supporting the Turkish Cypriot people and their cause.
President Tatar stated that a fair and sustainable agreement can only be achieved through a two-state solution, highlighting the importance of Turkish troops and Türkiye’s guarantorship for security and peace in Cyprus.
He cautioned against a unitary structure within the EU, underscoring that the Turkish Cypriots do not wish to return to the pre-1974 era and have the right to establish their own state.
The President condemned the ongoing isolations and embargoes against the Turkish Cypriot people and reaffirmed the Turkish Cypriots’ determination in their national struggle.
He commended the TRNC Human Rights Association for its work and wished them success.
Hasan Yılmaz Işık, President of the TRNC Human Rights Association, presented the Human Rights Independence Honorary Award to President Tatar to emphasize the importance of protecting our state and independence, which is our only guarantee in the protection of our human rights.
