President Ersin Tatar received the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Ziya Öztürkler on Thursday.
In his speech during the meeting, Speaker Öztürkler noted that this was his first official visit to the President and stressed the importance of the Assembly for the country.
Stating that as Speaker, he would ensure the functioning of the Assembly, activate committees, and act with an awareness of his responsibilities to pass the national budget and advance the country, Öztürkler said they would take ownership of the country and move it forward.
He expressed that he attached great importance to President Ersin Tatar’s views and ideas, stating that they would invite him to brief the Assembly on the Cyprus issue.
Öztürkler also expressed their full support for President Tatar’s two-state policy.
For his part, President Ersin Tatar congratulated Speaker Ziya Öztürkler, wished him success, and expressed his hope that it would be beneficial for the country.
Reminding that Öztürkler had performed successful duties in the Ministry of National Education, served as Minister of the Interior after being elected as a member of parliament, and has now been elected as Speaker of the Assembly, Tatar emphasized Öztürkler’s commitment and dedication to the country, expressing his belief that he would lead the Assembly well with the mandate given by the people.
Stating that all members of parliament should participate in the work, contribute, and serve within the framework of their oath, he said that there may be challenges but expressed the belief that they would be overcome.
Tatar also noted that the most important thing is the well-being and happiness of the people.
Stressing that all responsibilities toward the country should be fulfilled and that it should be governed in the best possible way, Tatar said, “My greatest wish is for unity and solidarity to be maintained,”
The President also highlighted the importance of passing pending laws, especially the budget, and making reforms in areas such as the economy.
Addressing the Cyprus issue, Tatar stated that the two-state policy, supported by the Republic of Türkiye, was beginning to take root.
Pointing out the importance of messages regarding sovereign equality, equal international status, and the lifting of embargoes and isolation, the President stressed the unanimous support given to the new policy by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).
Expressing his wish for a similar decision to be passed by the Republic’s Assembly, he noted that such a decision from the Assembly would strengthen his position.
Underlining the importance of the Assembly’s support, Tatar stated that the two-state policy was becoming established, with increasing and deepening support.
Reminding that the 50-year-long federation negotiations had ended without results, the President stressed that, in this context, the two-state policy was significant.
