The Council of Europe has reaffirmed that the Immovable Property Commission is a domestic remedy for property disputes in Cyprus.
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg has approved the closure of the Rock Ruby case after compensation was paid by the Immovable Property Commission.
The decision shows once again that the IPC is recognized by the Council of Europe as a functioning body.
President Ersin Tatar expressed his satisfaction with the Council of Europe’s position on the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).
In a statement on Friday, President Ersin Tatar said that the Greek Cypriot side despite all its efforts to eliminate the consequences of the Demopoulos decision, in which the European Court of Human Rights ruled that our property regime is in accordance with international law and that the Immovable Property Commission constitutes an effective remedy, failed to achieve its goal.
Tatar highlighted that the Greek Cypriot Administration’s efforts to find legal justification for its pressure against the TRNC have failed to prevent the implementation, supervision, or closure of decisions regarding property issues.
He emphasized that, at this stage, the TRNC, with the support of Motherland Türkiye, is taking all necessary steps to ensure the effective operation of the Immovable Property Commission.
“In this context, the compensation decisions ruled by the IPC until 2021 have been finalized. In the following period, we will continue our efforts to further increase the effectiveness of the Commission,” said Tatar.
