President Ersin Tatar stated that he was determined to win the election to continue the two-state policy.
“As the President of the TRNC, my request from the brother countries that are members of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is to also develop their relations with the TRNC,” said Tatar, stressing that the problems should be resolved through social consensus.
President Ersin Tatar made evaluations to the TAK News Agency.
Stating that he was determined to win the presidential election as an independent candidate and was working in that direction, the President noted that he ranked first in the polls and was working resolutely without paying attention to other discussions.
Stressing that the two-state policy he has advocated and successfully implemented since the day he was elected had increased the TRNC’s visibility on the international stage, Tatar said that the TRNC had achieved observer member status in the OTS.
“As someone who has brought the two-state policy to the international agenda and has successfully implemented it, I am determined to win the presidential election to ensure the continuation of this policy” he said.
Stating that the rapprochement of some OTS member states with the EU and South Cyprus began after the TRNC became an observer member of the OTS, the President noted that initiatives centered in France and Brussels aimed to question the TRNC’s position and damage its relations with the OTS.
Tatar said that pressures were being exerted on the OTS member states, and while he understood those countries due to their economic needs, as the President of the TRNC, he was requesting that these brotherly nations also develop their relations with the TRNC in the same way.
Calling on the brother states to reconsider their decisions based on the two-state principle, he said, “Develop your relations with the TRNC as well. South Cyprus is a recognized country, so it is not surprising that relations are built through the EU. However, now is the time for brother states to also increase the scope of their bilateral relations with the TRNC.”
Pointing out that harsh criticism had been directed at the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), and that this was wrong, Tatar said, “I view the issue positively and constructively. The EU approached them, and they took steps that suited their interests and were beneficial for their economies. However, similar approaches toward the TRNC within the framework of the two-state policy would also be positive.”
Noting that the two-state policy was brought to the highest level with the support of Türkiye, and that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for the recognition of the TRNC at the UN, the President also noted that he met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and that the TRNC had become an observer member of the OTS.
Stressing that he will continue the two-state policy by winning the presidential election, Tatar pointed out that many gains had been achieved and that the TRNC had developed as a state.
President Tatar also called on the public to support the two-state policy.
