President Ersin Tatar is continuing with his contacts in New York.
He met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Turk Evi in New York.
Within the scope of his contacts, President Tatar also attended the “American Turkish Business World Meeting” organized by the US Anatolian Businessmen Association.
The event, which brought together hundreds of American and Turkish business leaders, was also attended by Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır and Turkish Minister of Finance Mehmet Şimşek.
Addressing the business representatives, the President said, “We are taking a national stance on the Cyprus cause. It is a national duty to protect the natural rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and the rights and interests of the Great Turkish nation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Blue Homeland and airspace.”
Noting that Turkish President Erdoğan made a “historic speech” at the 79th General Assembly of the UN, Tatar said, “President Erdoğan defended the Turkish Cypriot cause in his historic speech at the UN General Assembly. He once again expressed our national stance in favor of a two-state solution in Cyprus and that there are two states and two peoples on the island. He mentioned our natural rights, namely our sovereign equality and equal international status”.
“He spoke about the inhumane and brutal isolation that continues to be imposed on my people and called on the international community to put an end to these restrictions, because it is a grave injustice. On behalf of the Turkish Cypriot People, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to President Erdogan for being our voice and calling on the nations of the world to end our unjust isolation which prevents my people from benefiting from direct flights, direct trade and direct contacts. Isolation is a violation of the human rights of Turkish Cypriots. The commitment of the international community to end these restrictions during the UN Comprehensive Settlement Plan in 2004 has never been fulfilled,” said Tatar.
He also said that Turkish President Erdoğan emphasized that the federal-based negotiations “have completely lost their validity”.
Stating that the Greek Cypriot side refused to share power and prosperity with the Turkish Cypriot People on the basis of equality, Tatar noted that the Greek Cypriot side also made demands such as “zero troops, zero guarantees” in order to “eliminate Türkiye’s Guarantor rights”.
Tatar said, “The negotiations carried out on a federal basis did not produce a solution. For this reason, we say that there is a need to think outside the federal solution and that there is a need for a realistic and sustainable solution based on good neighborly relations and cooperation of the two states in Cyprus.”
Stating that the Island of Cyprus is located only 40 miles south of the Turkish coast and is an important geopolitical and geostrategic area of interest, President Tatar said that “the strategic importance of the region has increased following the discovery of energy resources, the Island, which has two bases, is used for military purposes, provides logistical support, and all of this significantly shows how important the Island is”.
President Tatar stated that with the support of President Erdoğan of Türkiye and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) became an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States with its constitutional name.
He said that the TRNC continues to develop relations and cooperation with other Turkic States in different fields.
